How do I get my pet's license? There are several things we need from you to issue a City of Tulsa Pet License for your pet; We need a rabies vaccination certificate the veterinarian gives you these at the time of vaccination. The certificate states many things about the animal including the date the animal was vaccinated, the duration of the vaccine used and whether your pet has been spayed or neutered. Your City of Tulsa Pet Tag will expire at the same time as your animals rabies vaccination. We are unable to process any pet license without a properly completed rabies vaccination certificate. We need proof that your pet has been spayed or neutered unless your pet was licensed prior to January 1, J998 and that license is still valid or you have secured a hobbyist exemption permit (see below). If your rabies vaccination certificate does not state that the animal has been spayed or neutered, you must obtain verification from your veterinarian that the animal has been spayed or neutered. If your pet's City of Tulsa Pet Tag expires. your pet will be required to be spayed or neutered. What if my pet is not old enough to be spayed or neutered? If your pet is not old enough to be spayed or neutered please retain your vaccination certificate and submit it with proof of spaying or neutering after the pet has had the surgery. How many pets can I have? Under the old ordinance a household could legally "harbor, keep or possess" three (3) dogs and an unlimited number of cats. The new ordinance states a limit of "a combined total of five (5) dogs and cats over the age of four (4) months; provided that no more than three (3) of such animals shall be dogs over the age of four (4) months" per household. What is the Hobbyist Exemption Permit? A holder of a hobbyist exemption permit is permitted to own and keep, at a single family dwelling, a number of dogs and cats that would otherwise constitute an offence of the legally permitted number of animals provided, that the holder (other than the owner of hunting dogs) shall not allow outside the residence more than the number of legally limited number of pets allowed by the new ordinance. Owners are required to confine all female dogs or cats "in heat" in a building, secure enclosure, veterinary hospital or boarding kennel except for contro1led breeding purposes. The cost for the initial hobbyist exemption permit is $25.00; each subsequent renewal is $10,00. For a hobbyist exemption permit application or if you have any questions please contact us Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. at (918)596-7640. Thank you for your interest. |
